With Brooks out of the picture, and after spending dedicated time with Chris, I was completely in love . . . and utterly conflicted because I knew that if I left the show with Chris’s ring on my finger, the wrath of the entertainment blogosphere would descend on me.

The easiest thing to do would be to date and get engaged later. But as I sought God and spent time with Chris, I knew the only reason I would put off a proposal was out of fear—fear of what people would think and say about me. Because of my past and lack of self-confidence, I never spoke up for what I needed—not with Chris and not in past relationships (heck, not even with Brooks!). Looking back, I saw God’s divine intervention and timing. I needed to experience Brooks’s leaving to let go of my toxic relationships, to shed my past, and to become a woman who could love another because she knew God loved her.

I also saw that choosing Chris and being open to an engagement was another step in the growth of my faith. I couldn’t let myself live in fear of the judgment of others any longer, no matter how hard it might become, especially not when I knew I was doing the right thing.

By faith, I decided that I would say yes if Chris proposed.
